What is the difference between white chia seeds and black?
Organic white chia seeds are nutritionally identical to the black variety. They are still very high in essential fatty acids, protein and fibre and can be used in the same recipes. The reason white organic chia is sometimes preferred is purely for visual reasons. The black chia may not always look aesthetically appetising in certain meals compared to the white.
How to use white chia seeds
White chia seeds can be used in many ways to supplement the diet with extra omega-3, protein and fibre. When added to water, much like flax seeds (linseeds), chia swells and surrounds itself with a soft, flavourless gel. This makes it suitable for adding to juices and smoothies as they are less likely to sink to the bottom. As well as in drinks, chia seeds can be added straight to cereals, yoghurts and even bread dough.
