Red lentils are skinned and halved (split) to aid quicker cooking time. If you are new to trying lentils and pulses, red split lentils are a good place to start. They are the quickest to cook (approximately 10-15 minutes) and have a sweet nutty flavour. Red split lentils are used in soups, daals, curries and salads. They are a filling and nutritious way to thicken stews and sauces.
Split lentils have had their outer skins removed. By doing this, the lentils naturally separate in two, hence the name "split".
Split lentils include Red Split lentils and Yellow Split Peas which are also sometimes called Yellow Lentils.
