Superfoods

Superfoods are a tricky category to define, because so many of the fruits, nuts, seeds and grains that we stock are packed with nutrition. However, the foods below are often regarded as superfoods, and are indeed a fantastic boost for a healthy diet!
 

Quinoa

Quinoa is a grain similar to rice in many ways. It has a rich amino acid profile and can be used in a wide variety of recipes.

Goji Berries

Goji berries are highly nutritious, containing a wide range of antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. They can be snacked upon and are a bit like raisins.

Teff

Teff is a grain that's actually been in use for thousands of years, in Africa. It is gluten-free and high in minerals, and suitable for use in breads and pancakes.
 

Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds are often eaten as part of a weight-loss diet, because they expand in the stomach and make you feel fuller. Mix them with other seeds or eat them in a pudding or smoothie.

Raw Cacao

The cacao bean, from which cocoa and chocolate are derived, is especially nutritious in its raw form. Ideal for healthy chocolate-making.

Flax Seeds (Linseed)

Flax seeds are full of omega essential oils and are also good for the digestion.
 

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is high in "good" fats including Lauric Acid which has been attributed to good results in managing cholesterol levels. It can be used in baking, frying and to make a number of desserts.

Tiger Nuts

Tiger nuts are actually not nuts at all. They are small tubers with a sweet, nutty taste that can be eaten as a snack, added to breakfast or used as a flour in baking.

Stevia

Stevia comes from a naturally sweet leaf native to South America. It has been in use since ancient times and is suitable for use in tea and coffee.
 

Matcha Tea

Matcha Tea is a form of green tea, but more powerful because the whole leaf is consumed. It is very popular in Japan.

Acai

Acai is a fruit high in antioxidants and Omega-3 oils. It comes in the form of a powder that can be mixed into smoothies or sprinkled onto breakfast cereals.

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey can be used just like normal honey. It has a high antibacterial effect, and is so effective that it can even be spread onto wounds! But it is also a tasty food.
 

Bee Pollen

Bee pollen is made by bees to use as their natural protein source. It is full of enzymes, vitamins and minerals, and protein.

Maca Powder

Maca is a mineral-rich food supplement powder. It can be mixed into smoothies and other meals.

Black Garlic

Black garlic is an artisan ingredient, with all of the goodness of garlic but without the strong aftertaste. It is made by caramelising garlic with heat in a highly secretive process.
 

Cranberry

Cranberries are well-known for being beneficial for urinary tract health. We offer cranberry powder at a fraction of the cost of cranberry supplements, because we class it as a food.

Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a flower that is typically used as an infusion, to make hibiscus tea or jellies. It is used as a diuretic, and is high in vitamin C and minerals.

Blueberries

Blueberries are full of antioxidants, and are one of the tastiest berries available. Whole and powdered forms are available.
 

Seaweed

Seaweed has become popular as part of a weight-loss diet, and is also a tasty ingredient in its own right. It can be eaten like cabbage or used in sushi-type dishes.

Carob

Carob is a caffeine-free alternative to chocolate or cocoa. It has a convincing chocolatey taste and comes in the form of ready-made bars as well as powders and buttons.

Miso

Miso is eaten all of the time in Japan, and is attributed to good health as well as being a fine ingredient. It is most popular in soup, but can be used as a general seasoning too.
 

Green Tea

Green Tea is full of polyphenols as well as other phytochemicals that have been noted for positive effects for a number of conditions. It is also an excellent refreshing drink!

Amaranth

Amaranth grain can be used to make bread, puddings and porridge. It is an excellent source of protein and minerals.

Hemp

Hemp is high in protein and omega-oils. It can be eaten in salads, seed mixes or mixed into smoothies. Hemp flour can also be baked into bread.
 

Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is a green nutritional supplement full of protein and vitamins. It is generally mixed into smoothies or other drinks.

Barley Grass

Barley grass is similar to wheatgrass, and comes in the form of a powder mixed into smoothies.

Spirulina

Spirulina is actually a cyanobacterium which behaves in a plant-like manner. It is high in protein and taken as a nutritional supplement.
 

Chlorella

Chlorella is an algae-based food high in protein, vitamins and minerals.

Psyllium Husks

Incredibly high source of soluble fibre. Can create a gel-like health drink providing an easy way to increase your intake of fibre.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is a delicious drink that's often confused with coconut milk! Coconut water is incredibly low in calories and is full of minerals. It makes a great refreshing drink, particularly for use in sports and convalescing.
 

Blackstrap Molasses

Blackstrap molasses are generally taken for their mineral content. They can be used as a general sweetener or spread, or mixed into drinks and desserts.

Pink Salt

Pink salt is a mineral-rich alternative to standard table salt. It becomes infused with minerals because it is extracted from the Himalayan mountains.

Sea Buckthorn

High in vitamins A, Beta-carotene, C, E and essential fatty acids.
 

Apricot Kernels

Bitter apricot kernels and sweet apricot kernels.

Protein Powders
