Bamboo fibre is incredibly high in insoluble fibre. This can help you to feel fuller, whilst also getting that extra boost into your diet, as fibre is essential for your overall gut health. Fibre can certainly aid with digestion, prevent constipation and ensure an overall healthy digestive system.
Bamboo shoots are naturally low in carbohydrates. This makes bamboo fibre great for anyone following a keto or low carb diet, as well as those who may be looking to reduce their cholesterol. Bamboo is also known for its contents of vitamins and minerals, such as: Vitamin A, B6 and E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, and iron.
Bamboo is great to use in baking and not just for the added fibre. It is a great thickener and bulking agent, and binds wonderfully with liquids. You only need 1g of bamboo fibre to 10g of water (or 8g of oil) for high water retention. This makes it useful in keeping dough soft and fresh, though it can also help baked goods to have a crispier texture. It all depends on the process.
Whatever you bake with added bamboo fibre will typically have the perfect texture - for example, a roll will be soft on the inside but crispy on the outside. It can also be used as a low-calorie additive to avoid moisture loss and to preserve the taste of food products. You can also use bamboo fibre to make a very creamy frosting or icing!
Stir or blend 1 teaspoon into your favourite drink once a day. Use for baking as an additive, thickener, or in a flour-mix (for breads, pizza bases, pasta, tortillas). For best results, increase your daily fibre intake gradually.
