Toasted sesame oil is generally used in Chinese cooking as a seasoning. Many westerners mistakenly use it as a cooking oil, and it does work, but has a relatively low smoke point (180 degrees centigrade, which is about the same as butter). If you do intend to cook with sesame oil, we recommend the
non-toasted version.
Add to stir-fries to impart flavour. You can also use it in salads, like you would olive oil. Sesame oil is high in essential fatty acids, particularly omega-6 and 9.
Directions
Add as a seasoning towards the end of Chinese cooking. Toasted sesame oil imparts a strong, distinctive flavour that is very noticeably Chinese.
Do not add the sesame oil too early, otherwise some of the flavours will get cooked-out.
