This is a highly versatile natural syrup that is able to add sweetness without adding too many calories and has a Low Glycemic Load (i.e. little effect on blood glucose levels). The syrup is made from the sweet tubers of the Yacon plant which is a popular food crop in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and other parts of South America.
Yacon is high in fructo-oligosaccharides, which are a pre-biotic. Shreds of the tubers can also be consumed as a sweet ingredient in muesli and act as a healthy digestive.
Yacon natural sweetener is useful for diabetics and those on a calorie controlled diet. A suggested serving size is 5g.
