Lucuma (Pouteria lucuma) is a subtropical fruit from Peru, first discovered by explorers in the 1500's. The flesh inside the Lucuma fruit has the texture of a hard-boiled egg yolk. It is then dried and ground into a powder, which has a sweet, biscuit-like flavour. This natural sweetness and depth of flavour makes it ideal for adding to pastry, cookie dough and stirring into smoothies and warm milk/milk alternatives.
- Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.
Lucuma is commonly used in South America. For example, lucuma ice cream is one of the most popular flavours in Peru.
Lucuma is used to add flavour to desserts and sweets. It has a sweet taste, like a mixture of biscuits and honey, though not quite as sweet. Use lucuma powder to flavour ice creams, milkshakes, smoothies, chocolate, rice pudding and many other sweet things.
