Coconut sugar is becoming well-known as a low-GI alternative to normal table sugar. This means that it releases energy more slowly into the body, resulting in less of a "sugar rush" and helping to keep the
appetite under control.
Coconut sugar is also a tasty form of sugar, with a caramelish flavour similar to demerara, but more "biscuit-like" if that makes any sense! This sugar lends itself well to desserts, crumble toppings and any recipe requiring sweetness with a depth of flavour.
Directions
Use coconut sugar anywhere that you would use normal sugar. Use in your tea or coffee, or in baking. You can use it to make biscuits and desserts, or to sprinkle on top of things. Coconut sugar has a flavour that is more delicate than demerara and a depth of flavour similar to dark muscovado. It does not taste of coconuts at all, but more like sweet biscuit crumbs, but still recognisably like sugar. We recommend it for making gingerbread and chocolate cake. The Healthy Supplies team agree that it is very tasty!
