 Almonds are often processed in order remove their skins after they have been shelled. This process, known as "blanching", involves sitting the almonds in boiling water for a short period of time. Though many people prefer almonds processed in this way, it does affect both the flavour and the nutritional qualities of the almonds, which is why we also offer unblanched almonds.
The exact nutritional content of almonds depends on whether or not they have been blanched, but they tend to be around 20% carbohydrate, around 20% protein. around 50% fat and around 10% fibre, with the unblanched almonds having a bit more fibre. Around 60% of the fats are monounsaturates (the "good" fats), with some omega-6 fatty acids and only a trace of omega-3. |
