Soya 

Soya is a highly versatile food. It originated in East Asia, where is has been in use for thousands of years. The soya bean is a particularly versatile form of protein. Whereas most beans contain large amounts of protein, soya protein is particularly balanced, containing all eight essential amino acids in abundance. This makes soya a very useful nutrient for those who wish to obtain more of their protein from non-meat sources.

Many of the soya products available from Healthy Supplies are made from soya protein. Once the protein is extracted from the soya bean, it is very workable. Soya protein is a very low-calorie way of adding protein into your diet.

Soya has also been associated with other health benefits, and are the subject of much research (and debate) regarding soy isoflavones and cholesterol-lowering. Because of its versatility, it's regarded by many to be a super-food, and although it's easy to get carried away with these terms, it's easy to see why the nutritional value and versatility of soya have made it one of the most popular foods throughout East Asia. Soya Beans (For Cooking)

Soya beans are a creamy coloured, rounded bean. These are quite hearty beans, high in protein and fully satisfying.

Soya Mince

Similar in texture to ground beef or pork. Ideal for Spaghetti Bolognese and can equally be used in a Vegetarian Meat Loaf or Nut Roast. Remember to soak and season well.

Tofu

Firm tofu and braised tofu are ideal for adding to soups and stir-fries; soft tofu is used for making dips, sauces and smoothies.

Soya Chunks

Meat-like pieces for making a curry, casserole or pasta dish. Simply soak in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Then add to pan/pot with your other ingredients and continue to simmer. This helps the chunks absorb the flavours of your chosen sauce.

Soya Nut Snacks

"Soya Nuts" are actually the same as soya beans, though the term "nuts" is generally used when the beans are roasted into this crunchy, snack form of soya.

Soya Flour

Soya flour tastes a little like gram (chick pea) flour. It is golden in colour, high in protein and gluten-free. It is usually mixed in with other flours to make bread more nutritious and tasty.

Soya Protein Powder

Soya Protein Isolate contains the full spectrum of Amino Acids. This is a convenient ingredient to provide your shakes, smoothies, cooking and baking with more protein.

Soya Milk

High in protein

This milk-like drink is made with soya beans, water and nothing else. IT can be enjoyed on its own, on cereal, in tea and in baking. Soya milk is naturally high in protein and low in saturated fat.

Soy Sauce
