Kalamata olives are large, black olives with a smooth, meaty texture. They are an almond-shaped and plump, and named after the city of Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese, Greece, near where they are grown. Perhaps the most recognised olive in the world, the Kalamata is a traditional part of the Greek meze platter.
